Police in Abu Dhabi seized more than 400 kilograms of heroin and crystal meth and recovered half a million pills after smashing a major drugs network in force across the emirates.

The massive haul of illicit substances were found stashed in vehicle parts during a series of swoops carried out as part of a nationwide police operation.

Twelve people were arrested during the crackdown on a drugs gang being spearheaded from outside the county.

Colonel Taher Al Dhaheri, of Abu Dhabi Police, said that officers uncovered 423kg of heroin and crystal meth along with 500,000 Captagon pills.

“The criminal network is being run by people from outside the UAE, targeting our country and our youth,” he said.
