Thirty-two people were injured when two minibuses collided in Abu Dhabi.

The driver of one of the vehicles ran a red light and smashed into the other at 4.35pm on Sunday, police said.

The accident happened close to the Pepsi and Coca Cola factories near the Embassies District, officers said.

Brigadier Khalifa Al Khaili, director of traffic and patrols directorate, said the accident was entirely preventable.

“Investigation showed that running a red light was the cause of the accident," he said, adding that one patient remains in a serious condition.

He urged motorists to follow traffic laws and avoid speeding.
