After more than four years and 27 million hours of work, a redeveloped Salam Street is to officially open in the first quarter of 2012. The Dh5 billion project includes a 3.1-kilometre tunnel from Mina Road to Al Falah Street and will enable motorists to drive the length of Abu Dhabi island without having to stop at traffic signals. The project was previously expected to be completed in July 2011.
Private landlords will be required to sign up their properties with the emirate's new real estate register by February 1. The system, called Tawtheeq, will keep track of all tenancy contracts, which will be standardised in an effort to clean up an industry plagued by scams.
TDIC expects a year full of new projects in 2012. In the capital, the Eastern Mangroves Hotel and Spa by Anantara is set to be an integrated hotel, marina, retail and residential destination, opening in the second quarter.
