DUBAI // Environment watchdogs stopped 19 tankers carrying hazardous waste from emptying their contents into a water-treatment plant.
Mohammed Al Blooshi, head of environmental emergencies at Dubai Municipality, said the tankers were carrying waste collected from other vessels to dump in sewage-treatment plants.
Disposal of hazardous chemicals in the wrong treatment plant is an offence and could have led to a disruption in operations, Mr Al Blooshi said.
He said several tankers had been caught disposing of waste and polluting the environment, reported Aletihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National.
