ABU DHABI // A construction company will have to pay the full Dh300,000 compensation to a worker injured in an accident after an insurer won a case at the Cassation Court.

The Appeals Court had ruled that the amount should be paid jointly by the construction company and Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company to the young worker, who suffered permanent disabilities when a lorry crashed into an iron door that he was fixing on site.

Adnic, however, appealed against the ruling, on the ground that its contract with the company obliged the insurer to pay compensation only in accordance with labour law and that the contract did not cover the company’s negligence or shortcomings.

The building firm had been found guilty of causing the accident, which broke the worker’s spine. He needs metal spinal implants to aid his recovery.

The youth is now unable to do his job because he is unable to sit for long periods, kneel or carry weights.
