Hertha Berlin coach Lucien Favre labelled the 2-1 win over Bayern Munich as "the most beautiful day" of his reign.
The win, thanks to two goals from the striker Andriy Voronin, on loan from Liverpool, lifted Berlin to the top of the Bundesliga for only the 11th time in their history, but Favre said it was all down to the players.
"I am really proud of them," he said. "This team is a real unit: each player sticks to his duties and they fight for each other.
"I think the 2-1 was not undeserved. A win over Bayern will do for today.
"This was the most beautiful day since I came here."
The Berlin general manager Dieter Hoeness was trying to keep his feet on the ground after getting one over his brother and Bayern counterpart Uli.
"We certainly aren't serious title candidates," he said. "There are teams who are better equipped than us and you could see that in Bayern, but we have dug our heels in for now.
"Our aim remains a place in the Europa League [the new name for the Uefa Cup next season], but if there is more in it for us, then we certainly won't refuse."
His brother admitted that if any side were to beat Bayern to the title, then his brother's team "would deserve it", but he does not expect that to be the case despite his side's second defeat in three games in 2009.
"Hertha are one of the candidates for the title," he admitted. "But Hertha are certainly not the favourites. That's FC Bayern."
Bayern have yet to hit the top of the Bundesliga this season, but their coach Jurgen Klinsmann still expects that to happen.
"We have just put back being at the top a few days," he said.
