Godolphin finally confirmed that UAE Derby winner Thunder Snow will compete in Saturday’s Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. The horse arrived in Louisville on Sunday after receiving a final go-ahead from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and ruler of Dubai. The Dubai-based operation have never won the Run For The Roses, but trainer Saeed bin Suroor believes that the son of Australian sire Helmet can be competitive. "The horse is in good form. He is sound, healthy, and working really well, and I am so happy with him," the trainer told Godolphin's website. “It is great to see another horse from Godolphin travel to the Kentucky Derby as it is one of the best races in the world. “Thunder Snow prepared (for this race) in Dubai. He will be in quarantine for two days and then it will be back to his normal routine.” Christophe Soumillon rode Thunder Snow both in the UAE Derby in March and to victory in the UAE 2,000 Guineas in February and the Belgian jockey will once again be in the saddle. One Dubai World Cup night winner who will not be seen on the world’s stage for some time, however, is Vivlos, the impressive Dubai Turf winner. Vivlos came fast and late to cause an upset at Meydan in March under Joao Moreira. That performance showed that prestigious prizes in Europe or at the Breeders’ Cup in America were realistic options but trainer Yasuo Tomomichi has decided to hunt the deep purses in Japan with the four-year-old filly. The Queen Elizabeth Cup in November and the Japan Cup a month later are the ultimate goals. “I want to aim at the best four-year-old colts,” Tomomichi told Yahoo Japan. Moreira showcased his considerable talent in Hong Kong on Sunday when he guided Japanese raider Neorealism to victory in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin. Follow us on Twitter @NatSportUAE Like us on Facebook at facebook.com/TheNationalSport
