Thursday cover: Roger Federer gets knocked down but he gets up again

The National's Sport cover for the Thursday, July 7 issue, featuring Roger Federer after his sensational comeback against Marin Cilic in the Wimbledon quarter-final.

Federer came back from two sets down to triumph over the 2014 US Open winner, and will now advance to a meeting with Milos Raonic in the semi-final.

It was a remarkable achievement for the 34-year-old, and he said himself he was on the ropes:

“Marin is such a wonderful player and I knew I was in so much trouble in the third set and in the fourth,” said Federer.

“I just tried to stay in the match and hoped for his level to drop and get a bit lucky. That happened and obviously the breaker was crazy.

“My legs and back were there and serving was key, plus mentally this will give me a hell of a boost.”
