TELL US ABOUT YOUR PREPARATIONS FOR THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN AND 2015
My preparation is the same as every year, nothing has changed with my schedule. It’s true that this year is a little bit difficult because I come with no preparation and no feelings. When you are not able to practise weeks in a row, it is impossible to play well. It’s been a long time – almost six months in a row without playing, so I hope the two matches here in Abu Dhabi will help me. From here, I am going to play in Doha, so all the time I spent on court is good for me. When you are out for a while, the comebacks are always difficult. So while I will try my best to win, the most important thing for me right now is to spend some time on the court.
SOME OF YOUR FANS WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT, IF NOT FOR THE INJURIES, YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN AT THE TOP OF THE ALL-TIME GRAND SLAM WINNERS LIST WITH MORE THAN 17 TITLES.
There is no way of knowing that... it is just hypothesis. I have won a lot during my career – 14 grand slams and I think 27 Masters 1000. That’s a lot of tournaments and I feel happy about that. I have had a few injuries, but I have also had a lot of fantastic moments. Yes, if I did not have these injuries, I would have had more chances to win tournaments, but I believe I have been lucky to have all the opportunities that I have had and I will keep fighting to stay healthy and to create these opportunities.
FROM THE START OF 2014, WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THE DEMISE OF THE BIG FOUR. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT?
We had four different grand slam winners for the first time in a very long time. But at the same time, I was in the final of the Australian Open, Novak [Djokovic] and me played the final of Roland Garros, Novak and Roger [Federer] played the final of Wimbledon. I was not playing at the US Open, but Novak and Roger in the semis and close to playing in the final again. So, I don’t know. People do lose matches. That’s not unusual. What happened over the last 10 years is unusual. Three players – two [Nadal and Federer] at the beginning and then Novak since 2007-08 – won everything. They brought a lot of viewers to tennis. That does not happen very often. It was special moment, but it is not going to last forever. We are older now and we are not going to be No1, No2 and No3 in the ranking forever. Other people also want to win, but it seems like Novak and Roger are in good shape and, while I don’t know how it is going to be, I want to be there too.
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THE CONTROVERSY AROUND THE SPANISH DAVIS CUP TEAM AND ARE YOU CONFIDENT THEY CAN GET BACK TO THE WORLD GROUP?
I don’t want to talk about it because there has already been enough talk in Spain. But it is not an ideal situation for anybody. The players are not happy with the federation and the federation is not happy with the players, and when nobody is happy with nobody, then the situation is a bit more difficult to change.
So things don’t look good and we are going to have a tough opponent, probably Russia. So even if we play with the best players, it is not going to be an easy confrontation.
WHAT ARE YOUR TARGETS FOR 2015?
The most important thing is being happy and, for sure, playing tennis and being healthy makes me happy. I need to find that positive feeling as soon as possible and hopefully that will give me an opportunity to compete against the best players.

Low turnout
Two months before the first round on April 10, the appetite of voters for the election is low.
Mathieu Gallard, account manager with Ipsos, which conducted the most recent poll, said current forecasts suggested only two-thirds were "very likely" to vote in the first round, compared with a 78 per cent turnout in the 2017 presidential elections.
"It depends on how interesting the campaign is on their main concerns," he told The National. "Just now, it's hard to say who, between Macron and the candidates of the right, would be most affected by a low turnout."
