Lewis Hamilton looks to expand his points lead, holders New Zealand get their Rugby World Cup under way, Al Ahli will try to show they can keep their focus in domestic competition and Bayern Munich can avenge their loss to Wolfsburg in big events in the coming week.

Singapore Grand Prix, Sunday

Can anyone stop Lewis Hamilton? His Formula One competitors are running out of time to show they can. The Englishman carries a 53-point lead over second-placed Nico Rosberg, his Mercedes-GP teammate, ahead of the season’s only night race.

New Zealand v Argentina, Sunday

Defending champions and top-ranked New Zealand begin their Rugby World Cup campaign in a match at Wembley Stadium. After the traditional “haka”, Dan Carter and the All Blacks will take on Argentina, the strongest side from the Americas.

Al Ahli v Al Dhafra, Monday

The Asian Champions League semi-finalists begin a batch of oddly scheduled matches, this one moved back a day to give the Dubai side another 24 hours to recover from their victory over Naft Tehran. Can Cosmin Olaroiu’s side focus on the league?

Bayern Munich v Wolfsburg, Tuesday

The top two sides in the Bundesliga last season, now Nos 2 and 3 behind Borussia Dortmund, meet at Allianz Arena. Wolfsburg won the Super Cup match on August 1, but that was when they still had Kevin de Bruyne. Pep Guardiola’s Bayern have not lost since then.

Al Wahda v Al Ain, Saturday

Some believe this remains the biggest derby in Abu Dhabi emirate. Fans will not see former Al Ain midfielder Jorge Valdivia pitted against Omar Abdulrahman in a collision of playmakers due to the Chilean’s two-game ban, but both sides will be on edge.
