LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY // Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has bought the first foal out of champion mare Fleet Indian for US$2.05 million (Dh7.53m) at Keeneland's yearling sale, helping boost a sluggish thoroughbred market.
Sheikh Mohammed purchased the colt Storm 'n Indian from the Summer Wind Farm in Georgetown for the highest price through the afternoon auction.
The colt was from the last full crop from now-retired superstar stallion Storm Cat. Sheikh Mohammed also paid the day's second-highest price of US$1m for a filly by Unbridled's Song out of Strawberry Reason.
Although prices remained lower than usual yesterday, there was some improvement from Monday's opening session, the first in 13 years in which no million-dollar horse was sold.

- George Lamson Jr, from Minnesota, was on a Galaxy Airlines flight that crashed in Reno in 1985, killing 68 people. His entire seat was launched out of the plane
- Bahia Bakari, then 12, survived when a Yemenia Airways flight crashed near the Comoros in 2009, killing 152. She was found clinging to wreckage after floating in the ocean for 13 hours.
- Jim Polehinke was the co-pilot and sole survivor of a 2006 Comair flight that crashed in Lexington, Kentucky, killing 49.
