LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY // Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has bought the first foal out of champion mare Fleet Indian for US$2.05 million (Dh7.53m) at Keeneland's yearling sale, helping boost a sluggish thoroughbred market. Sheikh Mohammed purchased the colt Storm 'n Indian from the Summer Wind Farm in Georgetown for the highest price through the afternoon auction.

The colt was from the last full crop from now-retired superstar stallion Storm Cat. Sheikh Mohammed also paid the day's second-highest price of US$1m for a filly by Unbridled's Song out of Strawberry Reason. Although prices remained lower than usual yesterday, there was some improvement from Monday's opening session, the first in 13 years in which no million-dollar horse was sold. *AP
