Shane Warne will not coach full time in IPL

The retired leg-spinner says he will not commit to a full-time role for any franchise, but will consider a consultancy role.

Shane Warne has ruled out coaching full time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but is open to taking up a consultancy role.

The Australian leg-spinner played his final professional game in Rajasthan Royal's 10-wicket win against Mumbai Indians yesterday and while there will be many, including the Royals queuing up to sign him as coach, Warne has made his choice clear.

"I will definitely not be here as a coach for the entire tournament. There's no point being here as a coach for seven weeks, I might be as well be playing," Warne said.

"I can see myself in a consultancy role. Whether it be for 10 days pre-tournament, maybe a week in the middle and a week at the end, maybe a few days, maybe just at the end."

The Royals have indicated that they are looking to continue their association with Warne — despite recent controversies — but the Australian said nothing has been finalised as yet.

"That [the consultancy role] might be with the Rajasthan Royals," Warne said. "I have had four years with them so they might think it's time for a new injection from someone else with some different ideas.

"They might still want me, I'm not sure. In the next 12 months I might be associated with somebody else.

"Obviously Rajasthan are my first priority but if I can't come to an agreement with them then I'll look elsewhere."
