Roach hat trick gives Windies a win in the UAE

ABU DHABI // Kemar Roach took a hat trick as the West Indies ran out convincing winners over the Abu Dhabi Select in a friendly day-night match at the Zayed Cricket Stadium. The West Indies posted 288 for seven in 50 overs and the host were bundled out for 115 in 22.2 overs to win by 173 runs. Roach, 20, first dismissed Rameez Shahzad lbw for 38, next had Amjad Ali caught by Chris Gayle at the first slip and completed the hat trick by trapping Nithin Gopalkrishnan, to return with three for 27 off six overs. The Abu Dhabi Select were never in the chase after Daren Powell struck in his very first over. He removed Arshad Ali (0) caught behind by Carlton Baugh for the first of his three catches. Lionel Baker removed Irfan Haider (5) and Mohammed Iqbal (20) to have them reeling at 27 for three. Iqbal showed some aggression by hitting Baker for three consecutive boundaries but the paceman had the last laugh. Shahzad and the captain Saqib Ali (22) shared a 50-run stand before Roach gatecrashed the party. Brendan Nash and Ramnaresh Sarwan provided the platform for the West Indies total after the host team had dismissed the opener Sewnarine Chattergoon and Leon Johnson without troubling the scorers. Chattergoon was caught off his own bowling by Zahid Shah and Johnson was trapped first ball as the tourist were left two wickets down for two runs after three deliveries into the game. Xavier Marshall and the Australian born Nash repaired the inning with an 84-run stand for the third wicket before Fayyaz Ahmed and Haider provided a double blow to put the West Indies in another spot of trouble at 89 for four in the 21st over. Ahmed broke through Marshall's defence to send the opener back for 30 off 56 deliveries and Haider dismissed Baugh with a similar delivery for one in the next over. Sarwan, batting down the order took them out of trouble with an entertaining 87 off 77 balls, and added 140 for the fifth wicket. Sarwan was out to Saqib who also had the captain Chris Gayle (2) caught low at the point by Alawi Shukri. Nash played the anchor role, scoring 87 from 132 balls and hitting just two boundaries. Shivnarine Chanderpaul set off the fireworks for the West Indies to finish in a flourish. The left hander hit seven boundaries in his 24-ball 44 not out for the tourist to post a decent total on the board. The West Indies were beaten 3-0 in the Fortune Cup ODI series.
