Men’s 100 metres
Usain Bolt already has six Olympic gold medals to his name and the Jamaican sprinter starts his bid to add another three over the next week as he starts his defence of his 100-metre title in the first round today from 7pm, UAE time. The semi-finals and final take place tomorrow evening with the final at 5.25am on Monday.
Men’s 10,000m finals
Mo Farah was one of the home heroes of London 2012, winning both the 5,000m and the 10,000m men’s races. The Briton is looking to repeat the feat at Rio 2016. First up is the 10,000m, that starts at 4.25am tomorrow. The 5,000m takes place on August 20.
Swimming
Compared to the rest of the week’s busy schedule the final day of action at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium will feel fairly quiet. Just four races, all finals, are taking place. The women’s 50m freestyle, the men’s 1500m freestyle final, the women’s 4x100m medley relay and the men’s 4x100m medley relay race make up the action.
Cycling
The highlight in today’s action at the Velodrome is the women’s team pursuit final. Britain won the gold at London 2012 and are expected to challenge again through the quartet of Katie Archibald, Laura Trott, Elinor Barker and Joanna Rowsell-Shand. They will be pushed hard by the teams from Canada and Australia.
Fencing
The women’s team sabre medals will be decided today on the penultimate day of fencing action with a full day of competition beginning at 4pm. The quarter-finals see Russia face Mexico, Poland take on the United States, France go up against Italy and South Korea have a match-up with Ukraine. The semi-finals, runners-up matches, and bronze medal decider will happen before the final takes place to decide who gets gold.
