GENOA // A 0-0 draw on Saturday evening left Sampdoria and Juventus "stuck in a moment" in which things are simply not going right, according to their coaches. The Sampdoria supremo Walter Mazzarri was first to complain about his side's lack of fortune as the Blucerchiati picked up their fourth draw in five games so far this season. "The ball is just not going in," he said.
Mazzarri went on to claim his side had deserved all three points, although the Bianconero coach Claudio Ranieri was not in full agreement. "Maybe they deserved to win, but then we did not deserve to lose," he said. "We are just stuck in a bad moment." Ranieri also played down comments made by the Inter coach Jose Mourinho on Saturday criticising his linguistic ability. Mourinho has not missed an opportunity to attack his Juve rival and accused him of taking too long to learn English while in charge of Chelsea.
Mourinho was able to pick up Italian in a matter of months. "I am nearly 60 years old and have recently learned Spanish and English, but I just need a bit more time at my age," Ranieri joked. Meanwhile, Fiorentina narrowly defeated Genoa to get their campaign back on track after their midweek mauling at the hands of Lazio. Alberto Gilardino again proved his value to his new employers, scoring his third goal in as many games, to hand the Viola their second win of the season while condemning Genoa to a third away defeat.
His second-half strike was enough to seal a 1-0 win. Roma recovered from their midweek defeat at Genoa with a 2-0 win over Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico yesterday. Lazio made it four wins in their opening five games with a 3-1 victory at Torino. Goran Pandev fired Delio Rossi's side ahead on the half-hour mark, before Mauro Zarate sealed the points with a second on 63 minutes. A bad day for Torino was completed with seven minutes left when Zarate converted a penalty.
Napoli continued to make positive strides this season as they ground out a 1-0 win away in Bologna. Catania gave further evidence they could be the surprise package by moving into the top four with a 1-0 victory over Chievo. * Agencies
