DUBAI // Al Ahli have confirmed they have offered a contract extension to their coach Quique Sanchez Flores and are awaiting his reply.
Ahli are keen to hold on to the former Valencia, Benfica and Atletico Madrid manager, who took over as the coach in November after Ivan Hasek was shown the door. Sanchez Flores has, however, maintained he will not make a decision on his future until the end of the season.
"We would love to see him continue the good job he is doing with the team," Ahmed Khalifa Hammad, the chief executive of the Ahli club, said. "But at this stage, we cannot say anything more. We have made him an offer and are waiting for his reply."
Sanchez Flores confirmed he had received the new offer during a media briefing ahead of today's match against at Sharjah, but said: "I will reveal my decision at the end of the season."
"I am very happy with my stay in Dubai and I look back at it as a good decision. I like working here and the players are responding well to me.
"My players here are very understanding and co-operative, but I am not thinking about my future at this moment. I will make a decision when we have played all our football."
Ahli are eighth in the table, but do have a chance of finishing the season with a trophy as they meet Al Shabab in the Etisalat Cup final on May 21.
