Pryce right for Warriors

Karl Pryce, rugby league's forgotten man, made his mark at the Magic Weekend at Murrayfield as Wigan stormed to the top of the Super League table. The Warriors had been displaced by Warrington 24 hours earlier but powered back to the summit with a 28-10 win over Huddersfield. Pryce, the former Bradford winger, marked his first start for 10 months with one of his side's four second-half tries. The Warriors re-discovered their early-season form after the break when the scores had been locked at 4-4.

St Helens kept up the pressure at the top with a 54-0 victory over Hull KR. Castleford beat Catalans 34-18 but Terry Matterson, their coach, said: "We made hard work of it. "We looked really good at the start, playing confidently, but then a couple of errors and they pounced on them. "In the second half we looked a bit dead in the water at a couple of stages but we found the energy to get back."

In the NRL, Wests Tigers lost 12-8 to the Sydney Roosters after dominating yesterday's clash at Campbelltown Stadium. The Tigers led for 74 minutes before Todd Carney's late try. In yesterday's other game Manley beat South Sydney 30-22. However, the eight-point margin was somewhat misleading, as Souths scored the last 16 points after trailing 30-6 early in second half.

Meanwhile, Aaron Heremaia, the hooker who played his first professional rugby league game in England with Leigh, Widnes and Halifax, will be one of three debutants for New Zealand in Friday's Anzac Test against Australia in Melbourne. Alex Glenn, the Brisbane utility player, and Zeb Taia, the Newcastle back rower, are the other new faces. Jamie Lyon, the Super League Man of Steel during his time at St Helens, has been recalled by Australia for the Test. Johnathan Thurston, the injured half-back, is replaced by Melbourne's Cooper Cronk.
