Premier League: Ups and Downs - Week 11

Our pick of the three headline makers, and three BBC Director Generals, from the last round of action in the English Premier League.

GOING UP

Marouane Fellaini, Everton

The big Belgian is proving to be one of the hardest players to keep under wraps. Sunderland became the latest victims of his bulking presence as he scored his sixth league goal of the season and was a menace all over the pitch.

Mark Schwarzer, Fulham He may have conceded three goals but the Australian goalkeeper denied Arsenal claiming maximum points by saving Mikel Arteta's last-minute penalty in a thrilling London derby at Emirates Stadium.

David Silva, Man City Every City attack flowed through the diminutive midfielder as the Spain international provided a touch of class against Tottenham Hotspur. His vision and awareness enabled him to set up the substitute Edin Dzeko to score the decisive goal.

GOING DOWN

Mark Hughes, QPR

He may have the unequivocal support of his chairman, Tony Fernandes, for now, but the beleaguered manager needs to find a win from somewhere if the league’s bottom club are to avoid relegation.

John Terry, Chelsea Back in the side after serving a four-match ban for racial abuse, the centre-back headed the Blues into an early lead before later being carried off on a stretcher with a right knee injury, which the club say will keep him sidelined for weeks rather than months.

Newcastle United attack Jussi Jasskelainen, the visiting goalkeeper, had a busy afternoon, making no fewer than 10 saves, but the likes of Hatem ben Arfa, below, could not find a way past the West Ham United goalkeeper as the Magpies suffered a 1-0 defeat at home.
