English football columnist Richard Jolly names his Best XI in the Premier League for the August 22-23 weekend, including Pedro's first-class debut for Chelsea and Manchester City's defenders fuelling a convincing win over Everton. Click the arrows below to scroll through the photos.

Striker Pedro (Chelsea)

Another to make an outstanding debut, the Spaniard scored Chelsea’s first goal and set up their second at West Bromwich Albion as they London side triumphed.

Goalkeeper Jack Butland (Stoke City)

Showed why he has been promoted to be Stoke’s first-choice goalkeeper this season with a string of saves to frustrate Norwich City.

Right-back Allan Nyom (Watford)

There are few reasons to remember the uneventful stalemate with Southampton but at least right-back Nyom helped Watford keep another clean sheet.

Centre-back Vincent Kompany (Manchester City)

A goal-line clearance to deny ex-teammate Gareth Barry ensured Kompany and City kept a third successive clean sheet against Everton.

Centre-back Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle United)

The captain was in defiant mood as Newcastle showed their steelier side to prevent Manchester United from scoring.

Left-back Aleksandar Kolarov (Manchester City)

Has started the season superbly, as he showed by powering forward to drive in the opening goal at Everton.

Right midfield Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City)

The Algerian has scored in every game and a rasping equaliser against Tottenham Hotspur took him to four league goals already.

Centre midfield James Morrison (West Bromwich Albion)

Missed a penalty and finished on the losing side, but also scored two terrific goals in a fine display against Chelsea.

Centre midfield Yann M’Vila (Sunderland)

The Frenchman was an influential figure as Sunderland belatedly recorded their first point of the season by holding Swansea City.

Left midfield Bakary Sako (Crystal Palace)

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers winger finished his Palace debut in style by scoring the 87th-minute winner against Aston Villa.

Striker Callum Wilson (Bournemouth)

The performance of the weekend. Wilson scored Bournemouth’s first Premier League goal in their maiden top-flight win and ended with a hat-trick.

Houthis: Iran-backed rebels who occupy Sanaa and run unrecognised government

Yemeni government: Exiled government in Aden led by eight-member Presidential Leadership Council

Southern Transitional Council: Faction in Yemeni government that seeks autonomy for the south
