Morning session: Pakistan 57 for one
A tight morning session saw Pakistan get to lunch relatively satisfied at 57 for one in the second Test in Dubai against Sri Lanka.
Having been put in by Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews, the Pakistani openers Khurram Manzoor and Ahmed Shehzad were cagey as they looked to survive the new ball.
Shehzad was dropped early in the innings by Mathews at third slip, but his luck did not last long as he was trapped leg before by Nuwan Pradeep for only three.
Mohammad Hafeez looked nervy and he was put down, without scoring, by Mahela Jayawardene.
He had moved onto 13 at lunch, while Manzoor was looking in ominous form for the Sri Lankans as he moved onto an untroubled 36 and will look to move on after lunch.
Tea: Pakistan 128 for six
Sri Lanka took control of the second Test in Dubai as their bowlers took centre stage in the afternoon session.
Pakistan slipped to 128 for six at tea as they struggled in the face of some accurate bowling from the Sri Lankan pace attack.
Nuwan Pradeep had made the sole breakthrough in the first session as he dismissed opener Ahmed Shehzad, and he struck first after lunch, getting one to nip back and bowl the out-of-sorts Mohammad Hafeez for 21.
Shaminda Eranga then dismissed Younis Khan and captain Misbah-ul-Haq in quick succession to leave Pakistan reeling.
The only consolation for Pakistan had been Khurram Manzoor, who had looked at ease as he kept the scoreboard ticking along.
But he was dismissed for 73 in the face of some accurate bowling from Suranga Kamal as he nicked one behind to wicketkeeper Prasanna Jayawardene.
Paskistan’s misery was summed up just before tea as Asad Shafiq mistimed a drive off Lakmal and was caught by Kaushal Silva, leaving the Pakistan lower-order with a lot to do in the final session to help get their side anywhere near a score of 200.
Afternoon: Pakistan 165 all out and Sri Lanka 57 for one
Things went from bad worse to Pakistan on the first day of the second Test in Dubai as Sri Lanla’s batsmen made a strong start to their innings.
After skittling out Pakistan for 165, openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva made a positive start in riposte with a string of boundaries
Junaid Khan had given Pakistan a lift by trapping Karunaratne leg before for 32, but Silva (12 not out) and
Kumar Sangakkara (12 not out) safely navigated their way to 57 for one by the time they took an offer of bad light to bring an early close to proceedings for the day.
Sri Lanka will resume tomorrow 108 ahead and will look to build a sizable first innings lead from here.
Earlier, Rangana Herath had swept through the Pakistan lower order as their collapse from 107 for two was completed.
The spinner finished with three for 26.
