Valentino Rossi won the rain-shortened Indianapolis Grand Prix for his fourth successive victory this season and tighten his grip on the MotoGP title. The Italian rider claimed the win in Sunday's inaugural event when heavy rains and winds swept the circuit bringing out the red flag with seven laps to run. "These were the worst conditions of my career," Rossi said. "There was lots of water and wind was very bad. I was hoping for the red flag."
The American rider Nicky Hayden was second while Rossi's Fiat Yamaha team mate Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo finished third. The defending champion, Australian Casey Stoner, finished fourth, allowing Rossi to take a commanding 87-point lead on top the standings with four races left. * Reuters
