Team Abu Dhabi's Sean Edwards had to be content with second place in yesterday's Porsche Supercup race in Hungary.

Team Abu Dhabi's Sean Edwards had to be content with second place in yesterday's Porsche Supercup race in Hungary. The race, which is one of the support events on the Formula One calendar, was won by Nicolas Tandy, with Edwards finishing two seconds adrift. Tandy converted his pole position into the lead at the start, and Edwards, who had started second, was unable to do anything about the Konrad Motorsport driver, even after a short safety car period after four cars had spun out on the first lap.

Edwards acknowledged that the start had been crucial to deciding the race at the Hungaroring, where it is notoriously difficult to overtake. "I knew if I didn't pass Nick in the first lap it would be very difficult," the Briton said. "And I wasn't wrong. "After the restart I tried to up the pressure but he was very quick in this phase. So instead I just concentrated on bringing second place home safely. This is a great result on which to build for the remaining races."

Rene Rast, the championship leader, had to be content with third place, and the result has seen his lead shrink to just 10 points over Tandy. The Al Faisal Lechner Racing driver admitted: "I couldn't do anything more today. "I see this as a positive. After all, with third I earned some precious points towards the championship. And that's what's important. Don't risk too much and still collect points at each race - that's how you win championships.

"If I risk too much it could easily backfire." The next round of the championship is in Belgium at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit on Sunday, August 29. * Agencies
