Al Masaood takes podium in California

Abu Dhabi's Humaid Al Masaood took third place at the American Le Mans Series six-hour race at Laguna Seca in Monterey, California.

The Emirati shared the driving duties with Steven Kane and Butch Leitzinger as Oryx Racing claimed their fourth top-three finish in six races in their Mazda-powered Lola.

Stefan Mucke, Adrian Fernandez and Harold Primat of Aston Martin Racing took first for the first time this season.

"It's a great result for us all. The team did a perfect job, as did the drivers," Mucke said. "Nobody made a mistake and [the car] was fast today. The race started well, but then we had contact twice and after that, we never thought we could win. I am really happy and thanks to everybody."

The jubilation was just as strong for the Dyson team, which finished second. The trio of Chris Dyson, Guy Smith and Jay Cochran netted Dyson their first ALMS team championship since 2003.

Smith won his first driving title and Dyson his second. "I'm really thrilled for the team," Dyson said. "It's a huge accomplishment to end up on top. I'm so happy with my crew and the guys at the shop."

"Championships are valuable because they are very difficult to win," Rob Dyson, the team owner, said. "Our objective is to always win the championship each year. I've done it before, but this one came as hard as any."
