ABU DHABI // Meritus's GP2 Asia driver Luca Filippi has revealed he is in negotiations with several Formula One teams in the hope of securing a seat for next season. The Italian goes into this weekend's two-part race as a hot favourite after finishing fastest in last weekend's pre-season tests at Yas Marina. Filippi, who has been a test driver with Honda Racing and Super Aguri in the past, said this weekend is the ideal opportunity to put himself in the shop window. "I have been to Formula One before, so I really want to get back there," he said. "Of course, showing good results in GP2 is the best way and if I can have a good weekend then it can only be positive.

"I am speaking with several teams and we are dealing and talking and they are very happy with the end of my GP2 season." Last season, Filippi raced for Super Nova in the GP2 Series before moving to Malaysian-based Meritus for the 2009-10 Asian championship, which runs in the regular series' close season. He finished the year in fifth place after winning the second of two races in Portugal in September. gmeenaghan@thenational.ae
