The National's Sport cover for the Monday, July 20 issue, featuring Australia as they decimated England in the second Ashes Test with a 405-run victory.

England appeared on the upswing with a convincing first Test victory in Cardiff, but the tourists mastered Lord's with the four-day romp of a win.

Mitchell Johnson came alive for the Australians, snagging six wickets for just 60 runs in the match. Chris Rogers (173) and Steven Smith (215) largely put any hopes of a second successive England victory to bed on the first day at Lord’s.

"We always hope that things like that can happen but we came out expecting it to be a hard fight," Australia bowler Mitchell Starc said.

“To get a win like that was just fantastic. Obviously as a whole group we were really wanting to bounce back after that first Test so it was certainly nice to win like that.”

Australia captain Michael Clarke added:

“I couldn’t have asked for a better performance.

“The intent from our batsmen through the second innings was great and the execution from the bowlers was spot on.”
