DUBAI // Mike McFarlane, the Abu Dhabi Harlequins coach, is confident his club can inscribe their name on the Gulf Men’s League trophy at Dubai Rugby Sevens for a third year in succession this weekend. Whether it will say Harlequins 1, though, he is unsure.
Few teams have been quite as dominant at the Sevens in recent years as the club from the capital. They are unbeaten in the 12 matches since losing the 2013 final to Jebel Ali Dragons.
In that time they have racked up a combined tally of 436 points for, to 31 against, meaning they have scored an average of over 36 points per match.

McFarlane is aware the chasing pack have strengthened, with the obvious challenge most likely to come from Dubai Exiles, Jebel Ali Dragons and Doha. But the coach believes his side are the strongest they have been to date, too.
“Selection has been near on impossible, especially coming out of such a strong XVs season,” said McFarlane, whose unbeaten XVs side are top of the West Asia Premiership.
“That has been a good chance to look at their attributes, but it is only when you get onto an emptier pitch that you can look at their speed.
“We have two equally strong sides, which potentially could go on and win it. We have Quins 1 and Quins 2, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Quins 2 went on to make the final.”
The two sides met in the semifinal of the Eden Park Sevens tournament at Dubai Sports City last month, with the firsts going on to beat Dubai Exiles in the final.
“These lads have been knocking each other around, fighting for positions,” McFarlane said.
“Both have a right to push each other to try to win it, and I’ll be treating both evenly as well. They will get the same from training, to provisions, so it is an equal playing field for both to go for it.”

Dr Amal Khalid Alias revealed a recent case of a woman with daughters, who specifically wanted a boy.
A semen analysis of the father showed abnormal sperm so the couple required IVF.
Out of 21 eggs collected, six were unused leaving 15 suitable for IVF.
A specific procedure was used, called intracytoplasmic sperm injection where a single sperm cell is inserted into the egg.
On day three of the process, 14 embryos were biopsied for gender selection.
The next day, a pre-implantation genetic report revealed four normal male embryos, three female and seven abnormal samples.
Day five of the treatment saw two male embryos transferred to the patient.
The woman recorded a positive pregnancy test two weeks later.

What is dialysis?
Dialysis is a way of cleaning your blood when your kidneys fail and can no longer do the job.
It gets rid of your body's wastes, extra salt and water, and helps to control your blood pressure. The main cause of kidney failure is diabetes and hypertension.
There are two kinds of dialysis — haemodialysis and peritoneal.
In haemodialysis, blood is pumped out of your body to an artificial kidney machine that filter your blood and returns it to your body by tubes.
In peritoneal dialysis, the inside lining of your own belly acts as a natural filter. Wastes are taken out by means of a cleansing fluid which is washed in and out of your belly in cycles.
It isn’t an option for everyone but if eligible, can be done at home by the patient or caregiver. This, as opposed to home haemodialysis, is covered by insurance in the UAE.

Designed to give pupils all the information they need to improve their diet and fitness habits at home, at school and as they grow up, coaches from City Football Schools will work alongside teachers to lead the youngsters through a series of fun, creative and educational classes as well as activities, including playing football and other games.
Dr Mai Ahmed Al Jaber, head of public health at Healthpoint, said: “The programme has different aspects - diet, exercise, sleep and mental well-being. By having a focus on each of those and delivering information in a way that children can absorb easily it can help to address childhood obesity."
