BUENOS AIRES // Diego Maradona, appointed Argentina coach last week, could quit if he does not get his way over his choice of assistant.
Maradona, 48, who was installed as coach on Nov 4, has reportedly been in dispute with Argentina FA boss Julio Grondona, who does not approve of the choice of Oscar Ruggeri as an assistant coach. Grondona would not reveal the reasons for his dislike of Ruggeri but he said outside AFA headquarters that he was not on good terms with the former Argentina defender.
"I don't like his face," said Grondona as he forced his way through a crowd of reporters to his car. "It's a personal thing. It's my problem." However, the FA technical secretary Carlos Bilardo said: "He [Maradona] won't resign. I have spoken to Diego and told him he has to go slowly.
"When I coached the national team [between 1983 and 1990] I had to change my whole staff after four or five months of work. But Diego wants them all at once."
