Longoria connects again in Rays' romp over Red Sox

BOSTON // Evan Longoria homered and drove in five runs to raise his major league-leading total to 44 RBIs, leading the Tampa Bay Rays over the Boston Red Sox 14-5 in the American League on Saturday. Pat Burrell, Carlos Pena, Ben Zobrist and Akinori Iwamura each drove in two runs for Tampa Bay, which has won seven of 10. Rocco Baldelli and Julio Lugo hit solo homers for Boston, who lost for just the fourth time in Fenway Park this season, three of them against the Rays. Scott Kazmir (4-3) gave up three runs and eight hits in five innings for Tampa Bay. The Rays chased Jon Lester (2-3) when they sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth and scored six runs.

In Oakland, Brian Tallet yielded two hits over seven strong innings and Lyle Overbay homered as Toronto avoided their first three-game skid of the season. Adam Lind had two run-scoring hits for the Blue Jays, who produced 15 hits in the AL East joint-leaders' ninth victory in their last 11 meetings with the A's. Jason Giambi homered twice for Oakland, who managed just one hit off Tallet until the seventh. The newcomer Adam Kennedy had an RBI single in the ninth after Giambi's two-run homer off Scott Downs, but Landon Powell flew out with the bases loaded to end it.

In Baltimore, Aubrey Huff hit a three-run homer off Phil Hughes during an eight-run second inning as Baltimore beat New York. Playing in his second game back from hip surgery, the New York third baseman Alex Rodriguez went 0 for 3 with a walk. Nick Markakis added a solo homer in the third for Baltimore, Lou Montanez hit a two-run drive in the fourth and Adam Jones connected in the eighth. Johnny Damon, Mark Teixeira and Nick Swisher homered for the Yankees, who have lost six of seven. Hughes (1-2) gave up eight runs, eight hits and two walks in 1 2-3 innings. Orioles starter Adam Eaton (2-3) allowed four runs, four hits and five walks in five innings.

In Minneapolis, Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau hit back-to-back homers for the second straight game as Minnesota roughed up Felix Hernandez. Mauer had two hits and three RBIs and Michael Cuddyer added a three-run homer off Sean White in the fifth inning. Hernandez (4-2) gave up six runs - five earned - and six hits in four innings for Seattle, who has lost six in a row. Francisco Liriano (2-4) allowed five runs and six hits in five innings.

In Cleveland, Edwin Jackson and two Detroit relievers extended Cleveland's scoreless streak to 19 innings. The Indians have not scored since the eighth inning of a 13-3 loss on Thursday in Boston. Cleveland got only two hits on Friday against Detroit in a 1-0 loss. Jackson (2-2) struck out seven and allowed only five hits over seven innings. Cleveland starter Fausto Carmona (1-4) gave up two runs and four hits over 6 2-3 innings.

In Chicago, Carlos Quentin doubled twice and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning on Paul Konerko's sacrifice for Chicago. Chicago starter John Danks had a career-high 10 strike-outs and allowed one run on four hits. Kevin Millwood (3-3) allowed seven hits and three runs in seven innings for Texas. Omar Vizquel started in place of the injured Michael Young (back) at third base for Texas. It was the first time that Vizquel, an 11-time Gold Glove winner at shortstop, had started at a position other than short.
