Ahead of the Dubai World Cup meeting, Godolphin's key men go over with Geoffrey Riddle their best hopes for success at Meydan Racecourse on Saturday:
*
Trainer - Saeed bin Suroor
Horse - Cavalryman
Race - Dubai Gold Cup
“He is sound and happy from his last race. Silvestre de Sousa knows the horse really well.
Physically, he is in good order and his last piece of work two days ago really pleased me. He is a Group 1 winner and he has become better and better each year, which is why he is still in training. He looks much better than ever.”
*
Trainer - Charlie Appleby
Horse - Long John
Race - UAE Derby
“Obviously we have learnt a lot with him this winter. Peter Snowden and his team in Australia have given a lot of information about the horse. He put up a great performance to win the UAE 2,000 Guineas and put the race to bed early in the straight. I think he’ll get the trip and is not an excessively keen horse so should see out his race in which there will be a real gallop. He is the form horse. He will be the horse I am most looking forward to running and will be our best shot of having a winner.”
*
Trainer - Bin Suroor
Horse - Excellent Result
Race - Dubai Sheema Classic
*
“He is one of my favourites and is a big, strong horse and has improved a lot. I named him as a yearling because he looked to have a bright future. I think he could be anything in the future. After this meeting we’ll take him back to England and run in the big races. He has the class to run well on Saturday.”
*
Jockey - De Sousa
Horse - Shuruq
Race - Godolphin Mile
“She has been the queen for us at Meydan and hasn’t put a foot wrong since she arrived in Dubai. She’s got a real chance.”
*
Trainer - Appleby
Horse - Ahtoug
Race - Al Quoz Sprint
“He is ultra-consistent and is in good order and should be involved in the finish. At the beginning of the season if somebody had said we’d be in the Al Quoz with him, I’d have said, ‘nice dream’.”
