The former All Black lock Chris Jack has criticised the standard of European club rugby. Jack, who has spent the last two seasons in England with Saracens, said he was returning to New Zealand because he wanted to play a higher level of rugby. "I'm not going back just to muck around. If I wanted to muck around I would have stayed up there," he said.

"I want to come back and I want to play well. If I wanted to play easy rugby I would have stayed up in the northern hemisphere." Jack, 30, is in Sydney preparing to play for the Barbarians against Australia this weekend. In rugby league, the top two teams in the Super League play tonight. Leaders St Helens travel to Hull while second-placed Hull KR visit Huddersfield. In Australia, Brisbane could go top of the NRL if they record a big win at Melbourne.
