ICC revise the schedule for West Indies

Criticised in the past for not making prompt decisions, the ICC have announced the schedule for the next World Twenty20 tournament, barely days after the last one has finished. To be held in the West Indies, the ICC, however, postponed the event by a week without attributing any reason to their decision. The event was due to start on April 23 but will now be held from April 30-May 16. The dates for the third season of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) are Mar 18-April 23 and the ICC rules state that there should be no major event a week before any main tournament under the ICC banner.

A spokesman refused to speak on the coincidence or if a request was made by the IPL organisers for changing the dates. "That is not significant. It was put off after a decision at the Board meeting in April. I don't know if there was a request from any party," the spokesman said. Pakistan will now begin their World Twenty20 title defence against Bangladesh in St Lucia on May 1 next year. The two qualifiers will be decided from among eight Associate teams, including the hosts UAE and the USA in October.
