Highlights from Singapore Grand Prix
Following Sebastian Vettel’s victory in Sunday’s Formula One Singapore Grand Prix, Graham Caygill looks at five talking points from the race.
Alonso the magician The Ferrari is not getting any quicker and his qualifying woes continue. But somehow the Spaniard conjured up a second-place finish in Singapore thanks to a great start and an inspired move to pit when the safety car was out. He may have lost further ground to Vettel in the title race but he, at least, minimised the damage to seven points.
Ricciardo’s mistake The good news for Ricciardo is that he already has his Red Bull Racing contract for 2014 in his back pocket. But now all eyes are on him as early assumptions are being made regarding if he has any hope of getting close to Vettel and parking it in the wall after a rookie mistake is not the message the Australian really wants to be sending out.
Sutil’s encouragement The German knows he is facing a fight to stay in F1 next season. He has acted like a man not afraid to say what he thinks, criticising Lewis Hamilton and hitting out at stewards. He did his talking on the track with a mature drive to 10th and deserved his championship point.
