The embattled opener Matthew Hayden has been left out of Australia's one-day international and Twenty20 squads to take on South Africa as speculation over his Test future continues to intensify.
Cricket Australia announced 13-man squads for the upcoming Twenty20 Internationals and the five-match Commonwealth Bank Series starting Jan 16 at the MCG.
The national selection panel chairman Andrew Hilditch said the squads were selected with an eye on the ICC World Twenty20 later this year and the 2011 World Cup.
Hayden, a veteran of 103 Tests, is in the winter of his career and Hilditch said that was the key factor in his omission - rather than his form.
Hayden refused to take an immediate call on his future, saying: "It's been a pretty long last four months. It's very difficult to take a breath and get my mind around what my future does hold.
"There's a Shield game I want to play and I want to take my time and make a good decision moving forward."
The exciting New South Wales opener David Warner - who recently signed with Indian Premier League side Delhi Daredevils - gets a nod while the South Australian quick Shaun Tait has been named in both squads.
