Tiger Woods is set to miss the cut at the British Open after finishing on six over after his second round on Friday.
The 15-time major winner, who won the US Masters in April at Augusta, had been up against it after carding a first round 78 on Thursday at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
He birdied the first and sixth holes on Friday to give hope of a revival, but a bogey on the par-five seventh stalled his momentum.
He birdied the 10th and 11th but was unable to find anymore magic as he began to run out of holes and he bogeyed the 17th and 18th as his challenge ended with a whimper rather then a bang.
A 70 was a solid effort but the damage from Day 1 proved too costly, with the early cut estimated to be at two over.
It would take a dramatic loss of form, by a lot of players, to see Woods make it to the weekend from here.
JB Holmes is the early clubhouse leader on Friday on eight under, with Tommy Fleetwood and Lee Westwood both also finished for the day and one shot behind the American's score.
