ST AUGUSTINE, Florida // The former British Open champion Bob Charles has been inducted to the World Golf Hall of Fame veterans category, making him the first left-handed golfer to be enrolled. He also will be the first player from New Zealand to be instated when he is inducted with five others on Nov 10 at the World Golf Village. Charles, 72, is best known for his victory in the 1963 British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes, where he beat Phil Rodgers in a play-off. He won five times on the PGA Tour, eight times in Europe and had 17 victories in other parts of the world. "He is a quiet and reserved man, but has always been a thorough gentleman and has represented the world of golf in a most distinguished manner," said legendary South African golfer Gary Player.
