DP World Tour Championship: Facts and figures behind the Race to Dubai season-finale

Ahead of the start of the 2016 DP World Tour Championship on Thursday, we look at the key facts and figures that contribute to the European Tour’s season-finale event.

• 65,000: At least 65,000 golf fans are expected to attend the tournament. The Championship Village, four grandstands, seven hospitality chalets, four giant television screens and 10 scoreboards have been under construction for the past eight weeks in preparation for the event. There were 200 contractors in total helping build and set up the facilities and 240 staff will be working over 7,500 hours during the tournament as stewards, drivers, housekeeping and customer service.

• 70: The number of Jumeirah Golf Estates groundskeepers attending daily to the Earth course to ensure the fairways and greens are championship ready.

• 274: The number of volunteers working at this year's DP World Tour Championship. Over 100 school students will provide scoring support

• 500: The number of tournament staff from the European Tour, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Tour Productions, hostesses and security.

• 3: World No 2 and defending champion Rory McIlroy is aiming to win his third DP World Tour Championship title and a third Race to Dubai.

• $100,000: The amount of money (Dh367,000) expected to be raised for tournament charities over the past three years.

• 3,314: The hours of tournament television coverage that will be beamed into 423 million homes around the world by 41 broadcasters.

• $13 million: Prize money from the DP World Tour Championship prize fund ($8m) and a Race to Dubai Bonus Pool ($5m).
