  Centre-back: Martin Kelly (Crystal Palace) – Made a brilliant block to stop Todd Cantwell’s shot as Palace kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 win over Norwich City.

  Centre midfield: John McGinn (Aston Villa) – A revelation this season, the Scot was outstanding in the eventful draw against Burnley and grabbed his third goal of the campaign. Getty

  Left midfield: Mason Mount (Chelsea) – Even Frank Lampard has been surprised by his impact. Mount flourished and won a penalty in victory over Brighton. Getty

  Striker: Harry Kane (Tottenham) – Delivered the crucial victory for 10-man Tottenham against Southampton. Kane’s decider eased some of the talk of crisis. Getty

  Striker: Jamie Vardy (Leicester) – Took his brace in the 5-0 win over Newcastle clinically and took his tally to 14 goals in 17 league games under Brendan Rodgers. PA

Liverpool maintained their winning start to the Premier League season, although they needed a big slice of luck to register a 1-0 win at Sheffield United.

While Dean Henderson's howler led to Gigi Wijnaldum's goal, Virgil van Dijk put in a colossal effort at the back with some vital interceptions to keep United at bay at Bramall Lane.

Riyad Mahrez was the creative inspiration behind Manchester City's win at Everton, though goalkeeper Ederson pulled off a couple of terrific saves in the 3-1 win at Goodison Park.

There were standout performances among some Premier League strikers. Harry Kane was on target to guide 10-man Tottenham Hotspur to a 2-1 win over Southampton while Jamie Vardy scored a brace in Leicester City's 5-0 thumping of Newcastle United.
