Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said the Premier League season "is a marathon, not a sprint" as speculation grows about the Austrian's future with the club mired in relegation trouble.
Saints face fellow strugglers Norwich City on Wednesday one place and a solitary point above the promoted Canaries in 18th place.
"It is a marathon, not a sprint and we know how to handle it," Hasenhuttl said when asked if he was feeling under pressure to save his job. Southampton sacked former manager Mark Hughes exactly a year ago with the club in the same position they are in now.
"I knew the job I'd take on wasn't the easiest one because of our limitations. We have a special way of developing young players ... That takes time," he said.
A much-needed win for Hasenhuttl's squad over bottom-club Watford ended a poor run of eight games without a win to give them 12 points from 14 matches.
"The way we showed how committed we are in the last few weeks is special and a signal that it was absolutely right to come here."
That victory looks to have given the former RB Leipzig boss some breathing space at the South Coast club with the Premier League managerial sack race now in full swing.
Quique Sanchez Flores was relieved of his duties following Watford's loss to the Saints on Saturday after only 10 games and 85 days in charge. It was the Hornets' second managerial change of the season after Flores replaced fellow Spaniard Javi Gracia in September while Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have parted company with Mauricio Pochettino and Unai Emery respectively.
Hasenhuttl said Sofiane Boufal had aggravated a toe injury against Watford and could miss the Norwich match. The Morocco midfielder stubbed his big toe on a kitchen table last week but came on as a substitute in the Watford game.
"It got worse after the last game, the reaction wasn't the best one, so for tomorrow it'll be difficult," Hasenhuttl told reporters.
"Maybe for the bench, but not for the start of the match. It's not positive but he will not train today due to pain," he added.
"He showed in the last game how important he is ... we hope the injury gets better, we have a lot of games."

A comparison of sending Dh20,000 from the UAE using two different routes at the same time - the first direct from a UAE bank to a bank in Germany, and the second from the same UAE bank via an online platform to Germany - found key differences in cost and speed. What is graphene?
Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms arranged like honeycomb.
It was discovered in 2004, when Russian-born Manchester scientists Andrei Geim and Kostya Novoselov were "playing about" with sticky tape and graphite - the material used as "lead" in pencils.
Placing the tape on the graphite and peeling it, they managed to rip off thin flakes of carbon. In the beginning they got flakes consisting of many layers of graphene. But as they repeated the process many times, the flakes got thinner.
By separating the graphite fragments repeatedly, they managed to create flakes that were just one atom thick. Their experiment had led to graphene being isolated for the very first time.
At the time, many believed it was impossible for such thin crystalline materials to be stable. But examined under a microscope, the material remained stable, and when tested was found to have incredible properties.
It is many times times stronger than steel, yet incredibly lightweight and flexible. It is electrically and thermally conductive but also transparent. The world's first 2D material, it is one million times thinner than the diameter of a single human hair.
But the 'sticky tape' method would not work on an industrial scale. Since then, scientists have been working on manufacturing graphene, to make use of its incredible properties.
In 2010, Geim and Novoselov were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics. Their discovery meant physicists could study a new class of two-dimensional materials with unique properties.

Short-term let permits explained
Homeowners and tenants are allowed to list their properties for rental by registering through the Dubai Tourism website to obtain a permit.
Tenants also require a letter of no objection from their landlord before being allowed to list the property.
There is a cost of Dh1,590 before starting the process, with an additional licence fee of Dh300 per bedroom being rented in your home for the duration of the rental, which ranges from three months to a year.
