Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects 'quality' Alexis Sanchez to come good for Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he expects Alexis Sanchez to "come good" this season after his disappointing spell so far at the club.

Signed to much fanfare in January 2018, the 30-year-old Chilean has struggled to get anywhere near the form shown at Arsenal.

Sanchez managed just two goals last season and a hamstring injury at the end of the Copa America has disrupted pre-season preparations, but Solskjaer sees the club's highest-paid player coming good. Before his injury in the summer, Sanchez showed his class with a series of impressive goal-scoring displays for his national team.

"Alexis is such a professional and he comes in working every single day, really hard, and he wants to be a part of this," the United manager said.

"It's these stories again that he's been put in the reserves and all this - of course he hasn't.

"He's part of our squad and he's a very, very good player. He's had three weeks now, so he's a few weeks behind the rest, but he's very close to being part of it."

Asked if he will be an option as striker this season, Solskjaer said: "We don't have the biggest forward line in numbers, so Alexis might end up playing a lot more games than you expect.

"We expect him to come good at this club. He is quality."

Manchester United travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday aiming to extend their good start to the season following their 4-0 win over Chelsea last Sunday.
