Milos Kosanovic netted in injury time for Al Jazira to salvage a 1-1 draw against Shabab Al Ahli and remain on top of the Arabian Gulf League.
The visitors were reduced to 10-men in the 90th minute when Majed Hassan was sent off for a second yellow card but still appeared to have done enough to earn three points.
However, Jazira were awarded a free kick just outside the area and Serbian centre-back Kosanovic fired a low shot past the wall of players and into the right corner of the net at the Mohamed bin Zayed stadium.
Carlos Eduardo had earlier opened the scoring for Shabab Al Ahli on the hour after the Brazilian forward was set-up in front of goal by compatriot Igor Jesus.
The result took Jazira’s tally to 41 points, two ahead of Baniyas and four clear of the defending champions Sharjah, who meet Al Nasr on Sunday.
Baniyas kept the pressure on with a 2-0 victory at Kalba.
The home side were dealt a big blow when Mohammed Sabeel was sent off in the 64th minute following a rough challenge.
The visitors capitalised to break the deadlock on 74 minutes courtesy of a Gaston Suarez header before a long-range effort from Nicolas Gimenez doubled their lead five minutes later.
Al Ain were held by Al Wasl 1-1 at the Hazza bin Zayed stadium. Caio Canedo put the home side ahead in the 59th minute but their joy was short lived as Ronaldo Mendes struck six minutes later.
Bottom team Hatta earned a 1-0 away win over 10-man Fujairah. Dostonbek Khamdamov was sent off following a second booking in the 73rd minute and Hatta took advantage when Brazilian forward Jonathas found the net five minutes from time.
