Manchester City have been warned that they face stiff competition from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in their pursuit of Leroy Sane, according to the Germany forward's father.

Sane, 20, has been linked with City for much of the off-season, with City manager Pep Guardiola identifying the Schalke player as a primary target.

Various reports have claimed a £40 million (Dh194.25m) fee has been agreed between the two clubs and personal terms have already been agreed.

Sane is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in German football. Last season, he scored nine Bundesliga goals as Schalke finished fifth in the table. His impressive form earned Sane a place in Germany’s Euro 2016 squad, making his only appearance from the bench in the 2-0 semi-final defeat to hosts France.

However, Souleymane Sane, the Germany international’s father, has warned City that two other European heavyweights are other options for his son.

“Real Madrid and Bayern are also still in mix,” Souleymane Sane is quoted as saying.

According to reports, Bayern had initially hoped to delay a move for Sane for another year, when a clause in his contract would be activated that would make him available for £29m.

However, City’s proactive interest has forced Bayern to push their plans forward, while Madrid’s intentions have not been widely reported, although City will hope to avoid a repeat of 2013 when the Spanish giants swooped in to sign Spain midfielder Isco from Malaga at the last minute.
