EVERTON PLAYER RATINGS: Jordan Pickford – 6. Had no chance with Fernandes’ header then was wrong-footed for the Portuguese’s second. Almost produced his customary clanger under the high ball but just about got away with it. Strong save with his legs on Rashford, exposed for Cavani’s finish. EPA

Seamus Coleman – 6. Should’ve got tighter to Shaw for his cross for Fernandes’ equaliser but always looked a threat going forward. Busy without influencing the game all that much. Engaged in handbags with Fernandes throughout. AFP

Mason Holgate – 4. Didn’t spot the unmarked Fernandes when the midfielder split the centre-backs to head home. Not soon after, failed to pick up Rashford for United’s second, even if the striker ultimately didn’t get a touch on the ball. Then got booked minutes later for a reckless tackle on Martial. Talented player but not a great day. EPA

Michael Keane – 6. Not as much to blame as centre-back partner Holgate for the opening goal but still guilty of loose marking on occasion. AFP

Lucas Digne – 7. Clatttered the bar when he should have squared to Calvert-Lewin in a move that could have quickly restored Everton’s lead. Offered his usual energy going forward and managed his defensive duties comfortably. PA

Abdoulaye Doucouré – 6. Provided his typical strength and simple distribution in midfield but should have done much better with two late chances that could have earned Everton a draw. EPA

Allan – 6. Brought his movement and fulll array of passing ability to Everton’s midfield, but wasn’t able to gain control of the game after United fought back and gained the lead. AFP

Bernard – 7. Opened the scoring with a smart finish at De Gea’s near post and looked lively during the first 20 minutes. Faded as the match went on, though. AP

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 5. Honestly can’t remember a notable contribution from the Icelandic No 10. Replaced by Iwobi on 66 minutes. PA

James Rodriguez – 5. Everton needed him to have a big game if they were to beat United. Instead, save for a smart turn here and raking diagonal there, was a peripheral figure for most of the contest. Was he still a bit injured or just an off day? Reuters

Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 6. Lovely cushioned header to set up Bernard’s opener but was largely contained by the United defence. A frustrating day. AP

David De Gea 6. Beaten at near post after ball went through Wan Bissaka’s legs. Well protected by his central defenders otherwise. EPA

Aaron Wan Bissaka 6. Didn’t close down Bernard for Everton’s first and, as with Arsenal last week, was targeted down the left. EPA

Harry Maguire 8. Big second half performance as Everton pressed. Defended well against the advancing Rodriguez; was fouled but no penalty given and made key blocks and headers. Bruno will get the headlines, but man of the match. AP Photo

Victor Lindelof 7. Poor pass to De Gea put team under early pressure and didn’t win header which led to goal. Initially struggled with Calvert Lewin. Nice balls forward, blocked Colman’s 57th minute charge. Better in second half. PA

Luke Shaw 7. Beautiful ball in for the equaliser. After a poor start to the season, United’s best player in the last month. Shame he went off. Getty

Fred 7. Really energetic performance after being so poor against Arsenal. Looks forward all the time, combines well with McTominay. AFP

Juan Mata 6. Starting since Greenwood isn’t favoured. Well involved early on. Better than midweek, but impressive that his team can play in Istanbul late on Wednesday and then beat Everton away early on Saturday. AFP

Bruno Fernandes 8. Superb accurate header for his fifth of the season – and first from open play. Sublime delivery towards Rashford for second – and went straight in. Game changer with beautiful touches throughout. Takes risks – and loses balls because of that – but United need him. AP

Marcus Rashford 6. Attacks broke down with him but then beautifully involved for second. Clean through to make it three but Pickford saved. AFP

Anthony Martial 6. Unlucky after neat control saw him shoot wide early on. Lively and should have scored. Reuters

Axel Tuanzebe 6. On for Luke Shaw after 67. Important minutes for him as he seeks much needed top-level experience. Fine. PA

Manchester United returned to winning ways with a 3-1 Premier League victory over Everton on Saturday.

After successive defeats, at home to Arsenal and away to Istanbul Basaksehir, United needed to collect all three points at Goodison Park to help ease some of the pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

After 19 minutes, it looked like it was going to go from bad to worse for the Norwegian when Bernard opened the scoring for Everton with a neat finish. The hosts' lead only lasted six minutes, though, as Bruno Fernandes produced a superb header to restore parity.

Fernandes struck again seven minutes later to give United the lead, his swinging cross just missing the glancing Marcus Rashford, whose attempted header was enough to wrong-foot Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal as the ball struck the inside of the post and crossed the line.

Both sides had more chances to score, but it was left to substitute Edinson Cavani to open his United account after the Uruguayan striker finished off a counter deep in added time.
