As Liverpool continued their remarkable season with yet another victory, this time against Brighton last week, one of their veteran players was making his own mark on the record books.

When 34-year-old James Milner was brought on as an 80th-minute substitute on the south coast, he made appearance No 536 in the Premier League.

The utility player overtook the late Gary Speed to move up to fifth in the all-time list of most appearances since the English top-flight was revamped in 1992.

Milner made his Leeds debut against West Ham in November 2002 at the age of 16 years and 309 days – making him the second-youngest person ever to play in the Premier League at the time.

He would go on to play for Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester City and finally joining the Merseysiders in 2015.
