Donny van de Beek, 6 - Moves well off the ball but saw little of it. Only Ighalo, playing ahead of him, made fewer than his 21 passes in 77 minutes when both went off, but he was involved in move which led to penalty. PA

Jesse Lingard, 6 - Bright start as Luton sat deep and allowed United to have the ball. Came close to scoring United’s second but blocked by former teammate Tunnicliffe. Carries the ball forward, came close late on, but still needs to assist and score. Reuters

Odion Ighalo, 4 - Struggled to find his position as his team tried to break Luton down. Slow and minimal impact and did little to show he’s worthy of more minutes. Getty

SUBS: Mason Greenwood, 7 - On for Mata after 77. Set up Rashford for United’s second. Lively with both feet and got third, deceiving Luton’s defence with a double stepover before finishing. EPA

Manchester United kick-started their season's campaign with a 3-0 win at Championship side Luton Town in the third-round of the Football League Cup.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made ten changes after the Red Devils started their campaign with a 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend, with full debuts for goalkeeper Dean Henderson and summer signing Donny Van De Beek.

Henderson made a superb save to deny Tom Lockyer an equaliser after Juan Mata's penalty had put the hosts ahead.

Substitutes Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood then wrapped up the win with late goals.

"I dreamt about this my whole life," tweeted Henerson. "Unbelievable feeling to make my debut for the club I love. Clean sheet and a win to top it off."
