Danny Ings the top earner at high-flying Southampton - and that's before a new deal: Saints stars and their weekly salaries - in pictures

Southampton have had a remarkable 14 months since their 9-0 humiliation at home to Leicester City in October 2019.

Since recovering from that almighty setback - and admirably sticking with manager Ralph Hasenhuttl - they have been a team on the rise, and sit in fourth place in the Premier League ahead of Wednesday night's trip to Arsenal.

The Saints players have been rewarded for their success, but who are the biggest bread winners?

According to Spotrac, an online sports team and player contract website, Danny Ings is the top earner, pocketing £75,000 (just over $100,000) a week, or an annual salary of £3.9 million. Hasenhuttl is keen for the England striker to sign a new contract, which could make the pay gap even bigger.

Above is a photo gallery of the Southampton squad and their weekly salaries for the 2020/21 season.

Should late investors consider cryptocurrencies?

Wealth managers recommend late investors to have a balanced portfolio that typically includes traditional assets such as cash, government and corporate bonds, equities, commodities and commercial property.

They do not usually recommend investing in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies due to the risk and volatility associated with them.

“It has produced eye-watering returns for some, whereas others have lost substantially as this has all depended purely on timing and when the buy-in was. If someone still has about 20 to 25 years until retirement, there isn’t any need to take such risks,” Rupert Connor of Abacus Financial Consultant says.

He adds that if a person is interested in owning a business or growing a property portfolio to increase their retirement income, this can be encouraged provided they keep in mind the overall risk profile of these assets.
