Chelsea and Man City produce big wins, Man United edge past Arsenal: Premier League predictions

Graham Caygill provides the predictions for this weekend's Premier League action, with Arsenal v Manchester United the blockbuster game of the round.

  Chelsea 3 Newcastle United 0 Why? Newcastle are in a slump after a promising start to the season, while Chelsea are finding form after an inconsistent start.   Brighton and Hove Albion 1 Liverpool 2 Why? Chris Hughton has made Brighton tough to break down and they were superb in frustrating Manchester United for long periods last month. Mohamed Salah is in great form though, and with Sadio Mane returning to his best too, Liverpool will expect to return to Merseyside with the three points. Stu Forster / Getty Images

  Everton 2 Huddersfield Town 0 Why? Huddersfield are finding out how rough the Premier League is with three defeats in a row and they now go up against the dreaded 'new manager syndrome' as Sam Allardyce takes charge of his first Everton game. Everton put in their best performance of the season, led by a rejuvenated Wayne Rooney in attack, in beating an admittedly woeful West Ham United 4-0 in midweek, and they will expect to carry that on here.   Leicester City 1 Burnley 1 Why? Both sides are in good form, with Burnley having won four of their past five and unlucky to lose to Arsenal. But Leicester are sparking to life too and Jamie Vardy was superb in their win over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday. Honours even seems most likely. Carl Recine / Reuters

  Stoke City 2 Swansea City 0 Why? Swansea are in deep trouble and they are unlikely to find Stoke a happy hunting ground. Stoke will be eager to bounce back from their heavy loss to Liverpool on Wednesday, and Mark Hughes’s men should do so against a low in confidence Swansea. Carl Recine

  Watford 1 Tottenham Hotspur 3 Why? Watford have been great fun under Marco Silva but they leak goals to sides in the top six, with 18 of the 25 they conceded coming against Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United. Tottenham Hotspur and Harry Kane will expect to add to that tally as they seek to get their campaign back on track after picking up only four points from their past five games.   West Bromwich Albion 1 Crystal Palace 0 Why? It is perhaps fitting that Alan Pardew returns to management against the side that fired him 12 months ago. West Brom are unlikely to be in too much trouble despite dismissing Tony Pulis. Roy Hodgson has stabilised Palace but they still struggle to score goals, and West Brom can edge a low-scoring game here.Tim Ireland / AP Photo

  Arsenal 1 Manchester United 2 Why? This should be a good encounter with both sides in good form having won their respective three games since the last international break. The groin injury to Alexandre Lacazette is a setback for Arsenal as they may struggle to stretch United’s backline without him, and Jose Mourinho’s men can hurt the London side with any combination of Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial.   Bournemouth 1 Southampton 1 Why? Both sides had good Novembers and a share of the spoils could be likely in this derby.   Manchester City 5 West Ham United 0 Why? Going to the Etihad Stadium after conceding four to a low in confidence Everton is the last thing West Ham will want to do. But that is the situation and this could get ugly as City will expect to run riot with Kevin de Bruyne in excellent form, and Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling all capable of tormenting the London side’s backline. Premier League games are coming thick and fast as we approach the end of 2017. After a round of midweek fixtures, it's time for another round of games this weekend.

The match of the weekend comes in Saturday's late kick-off as Arsenal host Manchester United. Can Jose Mourinho extend his impressive record over Arsene Wenger? Or will Arsenal be the next big-six side to gain a result at home against United?
