Brighton v Everton player ratings: Yves Bissouma the only bright spark, Richarlison left isolated

A goalless draw at the Amex does little for Everton's European ambitions but moves Brighton a step closer to safety

  BRIGHTON PLAYER RATINGS: Robert Sanchez 6 - Everton struggled to create anything against a stubborn Brighton defence but the Spanish goalkeeper nearly gifted the visitors the lead after a careless touch was attacked by Richarlison. EPA

  Ben White 6 - Scouts watching Ben White won’t be able to take too much from Monday night’s game as the two five-man defences rarely allowed any attacking danger. Some good passes helped begin Brighton moves and White wasn’t troubled defensively. AFP

  Pascal Gross 6 - While Gross helped provide width for Brighton’s attacks, it was clear that the Frenchman would have much preferred to be playing in his normal midfield role. Gross’s shift at wing-back didn’t allow the German to express himself. PA

  Yves Bissouma 8 - A spectacular overhead kick almost produced the goal of the season. But while Bissouma didn't have his shooting boots on, the midfielder was strong on the ball, with passes leading to a number of meaningful opportunities. Brighton's best player on the night. EPA

  Adam Lallana 7 - The former Liverpool midfielder was positive on the ball and tried to get Brighton moving in the right direction with a number of key passes and dribbles. But it was a tough night for both attacks at the Amex Stadium. AFP

  Jakub Moder 6 - Sloppy defensively at times but the versatile Polish star produced one of the best crosses of the game in the 66th minute. A couple of half-chances didn’t threaten Robin Olsen’s goal. PA

  Leandro Trossard 7 - A regular threat when isolating defenders with trickery and was one of few who looked like they could make something happen amid a defensive battle. EPA

  Danny Welbeck 6 - Worked hard defensively to deal with the attacking runs of Coleman but rarely threatened going forward. Should have done much better with a good chance after being put through by Bissouma. AFP

  Neal Maupay 6 - The Brighton forward worked hard to link play but the biggest chance the Frenchman had was blocked by Yerry Mina. A tough day with not much service. PA

  EVERTON PLAYER RATINGS: Robin Olsen 6 - Could have been playing in a pre-season friendly as the Everton defence dealt with everything Brighton had to offer. Just three of 23 shots hit the target; none looked like troubling the goalkeeper. PA

  Michael Keane 6 - Looked unbalanced by Trossard at times but didn’t make too many mistakes other than a careless pass intercepted close to the Everton goal. EPA

  Yerry Mina 7 - The Colombian blocked Brighton’s best chance of the first half before being substituted early in the second after a slight knock. PA

  Mason Holgate 6 - Some good passes helped Everton move the ball out of defence. The defender didn’t capture much attention defensively and that’s usually a good thing for a centre-back. No mistakes as he helped his side to a clean sheet. PA

  Seamus Coleman 7 - Provided good support in attack and was solid in defence, blocking a Brighton chance in the second half. A captain’s display from Coleman who produced one of Eveton's brighter performances on the night. euters

  Ben Godfrey 6 - It was clear Godfrey hadn’t played much in central midfield as the Everton man struggled to cope with Lallana and Bissouma. Mina’s substitution meant he moved back into defence - producing a fine block against Welbeck who looked to have a golden chance to break the deadlock in the 76th minute. EPA

  Tom Davies 6 - Worked hard in defence but didn’t offer much when deployed as the central-midfielder with more freedom alongside Godfrey. AP

  Lucas Digne 6 - Provided options on the left flank and put in some crosses but was unable to put the ball into any dangerous areas. AFP

  Gylfi Sigurdsson 6 - The Icelandic was almost non-existent at the Amex stadium. Needs to do more. PA

  James Rodriguez 7 - Colombian playmaker displayed some moments of class with intricate passing but a pragmatic approach from Carlo Ancelotti made it difficult to create chances of any value. EPA

  Richarlison 6 - Came up a back three which rarely afforded him any space. The loss of Calvert-Lewin meant that the Brazilian could only feed off scraps, Nearly opened the scoring after a heavy touch from Sanchez left the ball to be contested. AP

Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton played out a 0-0 draw in a Premier League clash on Monday after neither side managed to create any clear-cut chances with defences dominating at the Amex stadium.

The result left Everton eighth on 48 points from 30 games while Brighton moved one place up to 15th on 33 points from 31 games, seven ahead of the relegation zone with 18th-placed Fulham on 26 points from 32 matches.

Brighton had the upper hand in the first half and twice came close as Neal Maupay had a low shot deflected by Yerry Mina while Yves Bissouma fired over the bar with an acrobatic overhead kick from a tight angle.

Jakub Moder blazed a first-time shot off target after a corner midway through the second half as Brighton continued to press before Maupay volleyed wide from inside the penalty area.

Everton were forced to defend desperately as their keeper Robin Olsen tipped over a Lewis Dunk header in the 78th minute and the visitors also needed several frantic clearances in the closing stages to scrape a draw.

Everton, who were looking to set a club record of 10 away Premier League wins in a season, nearly snatched victory out of the blue in stoppage time as substitute Alex Iwobi shot inches over the crossbar.
