Barcelona striker Luis Suarez to undergo another knee surgery

Uruguayan faces lengthy time on the sidelines due to problematic right knee

Barcelona forward Luis Suarez is set to be sidelined for a lengthy duration as he is scheduled to undergo surgery to treat a knee problem.

Barcelona said Suarez will be treated for an injury on the external meniscus on his right knee on Sunday by club doctor Ramon Cugat.

"Once the intervention is over the club will make a new medical statement," Barcelona said in a statement.

This isn't Suarez's first knee operation. Last May, Suarez missed the last two league games and the Spanish Cup final, which Barcelona lost to Valencia, to undergo operation on his right knee. However, he recovered in time to play for Uruguay in the Copa America in Brazil.

Suarez also underwent knee surgery in May 2014, returning to score twice against England at the end of June in the World Cup.

Suarez featured in Thursday's match as Barcelona lost the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup to Atletico Madrid in Jeddah.

The 32-year-old has made 23 appearances for Barcelona this season, scoring 14 goals. He leads La Liga with seven assists.
