Wenger has not won an European trophy during his time at the London club and that task has become much harder as they face Diego Simeone's side.
Atletico have won the Europa League twice in recent years, in 2010 and 2012, and were Uefa Champions League runners-up in 2014 and 2016.
Arsenal had reached the last four by beating CSKA Moscow 6-3 on aggregate, while Atletico got past Sporting 2-1.
The other semi-final sees Marseille face Red Bull Salzburg.
