Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea has said he is "delighted" with the new signings Manchester United have made this summer and expects them to settle in quickly at the Premier League club.
United completed one of the biggest transfers of the off-season with England international winger Jadon Sancho moving from Borussia Dortmund for €85 million ($99.8m). Former Burnley and Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton has also returned to the club on a free transfer having come through United's ranks.
The Old Trafford club are also expected to soon complete a deal for Raphael Varane, the French World Cup-winning defender arriving from Real Madrid for a reported €50m.
“It’s always a pleasure to welcome new faces and quality players to add to the group, it’s always a positive,” De Gea, 30, told the United website. “We still have the odd player to join up with the group, but [I’m] delighted with the new signings.”
De Gea has spent the majority of his 10 years at United as the club's undisputed No 1 goalkeeper, but a dip in form and the return from loan of England stopper Dean Henderson saw the Spaniard's place in the team under threat.
Heaton's arrival will add further competition among United's goalkeepers, but De Gea insisted that the 35-year-old's presence can only be a good thing for the squad.
“I’m especially excited to welcome Tom, the keeper, who I’m with a lot of the time," he said.
“He’s a great bloke and a top keeper. He’s really going to bring a lot to the group and let’s hope it’s the same with the rest of the signings too.
“They have great quality and I reckon that it’ll be easy for them to settle in.”
United begin the new Premier League season against Leeds United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
